Welcome to the MIMIC Lab

The Meaningful Interactive Media and Intelligent Computing (MIMIC) Lab is a research laboratory at Tennessee State University led by Dr. Caleb Vatral. We consider the Computer Science department and the TIGER Intitute as our home at TSU, but we collborate strongly across the university and with other institutions.

Our work focuses primarily on areas of interactive media (e.g., games, simulation, XR, etc.) and the ways that intelligent computing (e.g., AI systems) intersect with that. A strong focus of our prior work has been on enhancing simulation-based training environments and serious games through user-centered design and the integration of AI-based assessment and feedback mechanisms. However, our current work explores many aspects of interactive media, including applications of games to training and healthcare, relationships between interaction modalities and presence in XR environments, and teamwork development among human and AI agents in collaborative games.
